![]() Alice Springs is the starting off point for exploring the amazing Ayers Rock or Kings Canyon. These are the most popular attractions in the area, but there are also a lot of other sites worth visiting. Some of these are: Glen Helen Gorge, Ormiston Gorge, Watarrka National Park and Simpsons Gap. This area is really a nature lover’s playground with so many different things to see and do. If you are stressed out about work or life in the city, this is exactly the type of vacation you need. If you want to see everything, you should drive the loop of natural attractions and camp along the way: From Alice Springs, you can drive 130km to Glen Helen. Then it’s 260 km to Kings Canyon. From there, it is 300km to Ayers Rock. Another 445km will take you back to Alice Springs. You will need a 4WD vehicle to do the trip. You can fly to Alice Springs and then rent a car and drive yourself. If you really don’t want to do any driving, there are lots of different tours which will take you to the National Parks. Also, you can take the Ghan from Adelaide, Melbourne or Sydney to Alice Springs. It is a really beautiful journey, though I wouldn’t recommend the Ghan for families with young kids.
