Cataract Gorge - Tasmania

Cataract Gorge is only about one kilometer from Launceston and a gorgeous place to spend the day.

In the summer, you can go swimming in the water amongst amazing scenery.

It is really a great place to go for a walk or have a picnic.

This isn’t just a tourist attraction either; you can see that they local people of Launceston make use of Cataract Gorge whenever they can.

Going across the bridge is really quite terrifying, though you still feel like it is safe.

The bridge swings a lot and makes you feel a bit like you are flying through the air (or about to go flying!).

It is made worse when joggers run by or obnoxious kids purposely shake the bridge.

The chair lift really gives you an amazing view, though the rides are fairly quick for it being the world’s longest lift.

The café is also quite nice and doesn’t feel like a tourist trap.

Just be careful about the peacocks running around because they might eat your lunch if you aren’t paying attention!
