![]() Little Sahara is one of the many unique places in Kangaroo Island. The area is really beautiful to look at with their white sands forming high peaks. What is really surprising is how far the sands dunes stretch on. When you approach the dunes, you just see one ridge at first. Once you climb to the top of this one, there is another ridge, even larger, waiting to be climbed. By the third huge sand ridge, you can finally see some beautiful views of the coastline. It can be a bit frustrating to climb the sand dunes. For every step you take you go a half step backwards. This could be a very good life lesson! Still, it is worth all the energy just to have this feeling of being in another world. One of the most fun things to do at the Little Sahara is sandboarding or tobogganing. Even if you crash while surfing down the sand at top speed, it doesn’t hurt at all. You can hire boards/toboggans from Kangaroo Island Action who are located at Vivonne Bay. Be warned though that they are expensive! It costs at least $50 to rent a sandboard. If you don’t want to pay, you can still have some fun jumping off the sand ridges and soaring through the air until you land in the soft sand. However, it doesn’t compare to sandboarding. My family rented one board and shared it between us. We saw some people trying to surf the sand on cardboard. This didn’t work at all so don’t try it. Make sure you take lots of water with you to Little Sahara. Also, try to get there early to avoid crowds and the heat.
