This is actually a small group of islands that stretch for 75 km. If you like diving, then you already know about the Solitary Islands. They are one of Australia’s top scuba spots. Because of the location, cool waters from the south mix with warm waters from the north. The result is a wide range of marine species. This many diverse species are rarely found in the same place together.

There are more than 550 species of fish, various turtles, and 90 species of coral, amongst many other marine life. If you are in Coffs Harbour during spring, autumn or winter, you will have the chance to see humpback whales migrating.

 

You can take a chartered tour and watch the dolphins or whales and there are many professional teams who will take you diving. Also, fishing is permitted in many areas of the marine park. If you wish to make the Solitary Islands more than just a day trip, there are camping grounds in Yuraygir National Park.

The first marine park established in NSW, the Solitary Islands Marine Park stretches over 75 Km from Muttonbird Island in the south to the Sandon River and Plover Island in the north.  The marine park incorporates estuaries to their tidal limit, foreshores to the mean high water mark and extends offshore to the 3 nautical mile state waters boundary.
