Affectionately known as Macrob or MRGS, this is a state secondary college for girls. As a selective school entry is gained by sitting the selective schools entrance exam, which runs each year. With options for both vocational study and enhanced curriculum options for gifted and talented students, Macrob offers a range of programs to cater for a wide range of interests. The school is very popular and in high demand, so places for the exam are limited and fill early. There is a long list of students who have graduated from Macrob and gone on to very illustrious careers. Having begun its life as part of Melbourne Boys High School, they split to single sex classes in 1927, giving girls a focused learning environment.
